I was there with my spouse, Sarah, when a pair of our good friends turned up. We had no plan they have been coming – and they had no strategy we’d be there – but it was truly good since it gave Sarah somebody to lounge with. She’s content in a hammock studying a book, while I really do not do peace that perfectly, so she sunbathed with her good friend Gitte, though I went off windsurfing and water-snowboarding with Gitte’s partner Neil. We had dinner jointly most nights and we were all on the cocktails!

The most effective see I have at any time experienced was from the Villarrica volcano, close to Pucòn in the south of Chile

If you glimpse out to the coast, you can see the Pacific Ocean, and if you seem the other way, you can see the Andes – then in amongst the two, there’s a line of volcanoes. I was on a ski tour and we’d hiked to the leading of the volcano with skis on. It’s an energetic volcano, so it at times erupts, and we could see lava bubbling in the crater. It was not spitting nearly anything up that working day, but it did odor of rotten eggs.

My wife was as soon as trapped with no clothing after taking the wrong bag from the airport carousel

We had been staying in a very small French ski resort, three hrs from Geneva airport, and when Sarah opened the bag at the lodge, she realised it wasn’t hers. I was racing, so it was a few times ahead of I could drive back to the airport. There had been no other women of all ages, so Sarah experienced to borrow dresses from the smallest person on the ski staff. When Sarah flew residence, she received talking to the woman sitting next to her, and requested: “How was your 7 days?” The female said: “It was wonderful, but somebody took my bag from the carousel!”

The greatest oysters I have ever tasted have been in Tokyo

I experienced them in the most important fish market place and they were large. It was December 2019, and I was there filming in advance of the 2020 Olympics. Whilst I was out there, I decided to master Japanese, for when I went again in the summer season to protect the Olympics. I’d only prepared to commit six months finding out the language, but, of course, Covid postponed the Video games, so now I have been doing Rosetta Stone for above a calendar year. I’m discovering to browse Japanese, as well. Annoyingly there are three alphabets, but I’m getting there!

My most rock’n’roll minute was at the 1988 Calgary Olympics

a person standing in front of a body of water: Which destination do I miss? There are so many right now! I would love to go back to Mexico, where I learned Spanish, made many friends and developed my passion for Latin America. The photo is from 2011 and shows me in a 10-years-younger version at the Arco of Cabo San Lucas, on the southern tip of California. (Lukas)

Bryan Adams arrived into the Olympic Village to perform a gig for the athletes, and at the conclude of the live performance he hauled us on to the stage. My brother [skier Martin Bell] and I lifted up the guitarist. The past tune of the established was Summer time of ’69 and he performed it sitting on our shoulders. Then we group surfed amid all the athletes in the Olympic Village. It was actually amazing.

I’m ordinarily somebody who does not like towns, but I’ve been won above by Vancouver

I’d commonly somewhat head to mountains or coastlines, but Vancouver’s excellent for the reason that it combines each of individuals with a city. It is gorgeous and the mountains are floodlit, so you can ski in the night. It rains a large amount, but if you live in the British isles, you are used to a damp climate! There are gorgeous massive pine trees and there’s a significant Asian influence, so you can easily come across awesome sushi.

There’s nowhere very like the Scottish Highlands

It’s exactly where I grew up snowboarding. I appreciate the ruggedness and remoteness of the mountains. There’s some thing actually special about the glaciated valleys and the stunning mountain tops and valley flooring. My sister-in-legislation life in Ullapool and there are some astounding places outside it. Some of the towns are a bit touristy – I stay away from Aviemore! – but there is nothing like the mountain ranges and the Cairngorms.

The best time to stop by Cornwall is in winter

I adore Cornwall and so does Sarah. She was born in Truro and lived there right until she was five, so it feels like house. St Ives can be touristy in summertime but Sarah generally goes in winter if I’m in the Alps. She likes the ruggedness, and the sea crashing on the rocks. I appreciate jogging together the clifftops on a stormy day when the wind’s blowing in, and on the lookout out to sea. If you facial area west, you’re wanting across the Irish Sea in the direction of Ireland, or else you might appear throughout the Atlantic, all the way to America.

For energy on a plate, I would propose tartiflette

It’s a mountain dish that’s high in carbs, consisting of Reblochon cheese with potatoes and lardons. It is served piping incredibly hot and is great for when you have experienced a challenging working day out on the slopes. You can get it anywhere in the Savoie location of France and I had a great a person in Val d’Isère at a restaurant named Le Lodge.  The Austrian model is named Tiroler gröstl. Instead of lardons, they use speck, which is like bacon in any case, and they place a fried egg on top rated. I have experienced an amazing Tiroler gröstl at the Rodelalm cafe in St Anton. The Austrians also do a preposterous knuckle of pork. If I take a visitor, I generally propose we share it, mainly because I have hardly ever witnessed everyone take in it all!
